While people may be hesitant to get braces on their teeth due to embarrassment, we offer another option that will blend in with the teeth for a more discreet appearance. Some people struggle with the idea of braces to the point that they avoid the necessary teeth straightening treatment altogether and live with crooked teeth. However, crooked teeth can also cause bite issues, speaking problems in children and infection in patients of all ages.

What Ceramic Braces can do for You

At Henry Orthodontics, we offer ceramic braces as an effective and more discreet option to straightening teeth than traditional braces. The main difference is that ceramic braces are clear and less noticeable when people display their teeth. Ceramic braces are just as effective as traditional braces and available at our practice.

If you or a loved one are interested in ceramic braces, give us a call and schedule an appointment today.

While people are quick to jump on the idea of clear plastic aligners for straightening teeth, ceramic braces are a sturdy, effective and sometimes faster method. While they are not removable, that is one of the key benefits toward ceramic braces needing less time to straighten the teeth into the proper alignment.

Benefits of ceramic braces include:

  • Being more discreet than traditional metal braces
  • Being sturdier and durable
  • Being less likely to be lost
  • Not falling out
  • Help shift teeth faster than other options

Even though clear aligners have the appeal of being removable, removing them halts the adjustment process. The longer a patient keeps the aligner trays out of the mouth, the more the teeth will begin to shift back to the crooked position. Since ceramic braces are not removable, there is no chance of the patient removing them and halting the teeth straightening process.

Proper Care

With ceramic braces, there are a few things that patients need to keep in mind when it comes to proper care. Proper cleaning for braces will involve:

  • Brushing and rinsing after meals
  • Brushing the teeth at least twice a day, if not three times
  • Avoiding certain sugary and sticky foods/beverages
  • Investing in specific flossing tools or a water flosser

Since the brackets are tooth-colored or clear, bits of food and plaque will be much more noticeable. Thus, people need to be careful when eating meals or snacks and clean their teeth after. Since the wire can make traditional flossing more difficult, we will recommend the patient carry around specialized flossing tools to at least get between a part of the teeth. Another option is to use a water flosser. This device shoots a stream of water to get between teeth effectively and harmlessly.

As with traditional braces, patients will need to avoid certain foods and beverages. Foods to avoid can include sugary, sticky or hard foods that are difficult to get off the teeth. Beverages such as soda, tea and certain juices can also stain the tooth-colored brackets and cause them to always appear as if something is in the patient’s teeth.

With our guidance and checkup appointments, we can help the patient to keep the braces clean and stay on track for the treatment plan.

The Treatment Process

There is no one-size-fits-all treatment for straightening teeth. Thus, it is important to seek professional treatment since as an orthodontist, we can customize the treatment to the patient’s teeth. For ceramic braces, the first step will be to examine the patient’s teeth. We will also review the patient’s medical history, current condition, insurance and any other factors we need to know about.

With this information, we will be able to map out the patient’s treatment plan and consider various teeth straightening options. Depending on the age of the patient, we may recommend certain options over others. For instance, since children are not always as responsible for brushing their teeth, ceramic braces may not be the most effective option.

We will then prepare the teeth for the customized brackets that will either be clear or tooth-colored ceramic. After using dental cement to place them on the teeth, we will then thread the wire through them. This appointment may take several hours to complete.
